Email address changes
In order to improve the security within our payroll department, we recently made some network changes that impacted the email addresses of several SuretyHR team members that you may communicate with regularly. With the exception of your contacts in our payroll department, most of our staff have transitioned to a spoonerinc.net email address. Client services, workers’ comp, FMLA, unemployment and safety email addresses will now follow the format flast@spoonerinc.net. If you need an updated contact sheet with your SuretyHR team’s contact info, please email Brandy King at bking@spoonerinc.net.
Certificates of Coverage and EMR Letters
For those in our self-insured workers’ comp program, we’ll be sending out updated certificates of coverage as soon as it’s available for download on our end. We know your certificates expire 12/1, and we will be distributing them via email the first week of December. As noted above, please be sure to whitelist both Spoonerinc.net and Suretyhr.com email exchanges to ensure you receive these important emails from us. We will also be sending EMR letters out to those who need them in January. If you do not receive either document, please email bking@spoonerinc.net for a copy.
Ohio Unemployment Rates
Many employers have recently received a notice from Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) regarding a change in rates due to the implementation of a technology and service fee.
All contributing employers will pay a technology and service fee of 0.15% on each employee’s wages, up to $9000. The fee will be included in your unemployment tax payments, so there are no additional steps that employers need to take. This fee will begin in 2026, and will be in effect through December 2027.

No Changes to Form W-2 for 2025
We talked a bit about OBBBA in a blog shortly after the bill was passed, and created this one-pager to help employers answer employee questions about it. We’ve since learned that the format for tax year 2025 W-2s will not be any different than years past. Employees are advised to use their last paystub from 2025 to capture any tips and overtime paid, and can use this as an estimated amount when filing their 2026 tax return. Any additional questions should be directed to their tax preparer.
